The Global Water Experiment

In 2011, the International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC 2011), school students around the world will be invited to explore one of Earth's most critical resources, water. The results of their investigations will contribute to a Global Experiment, which will possibly become the biggest chemistry experiment ever.

The launch of the Global Water Experiment will coincide with the World Water Day 2011 which will be celebrated in Cape Town from 20 - 22 March 2011.

From March 22, teachers and students will be invited to Join, Participate and Contribute. The Global Water Experiment will engage teachers and students across the world through practical activities around the theme of 'Water: A chemical Solution'.

The Global Water Experiment will consist of four main activities:

1. pH of the Planet
2. Salty Waters
3. Solar Still Challenge
4. Water: No Dirt, No Germs

Each of these activities can be carried out by children of all ages in schools across all continents. The activities are adaptable to the skills and interests of students of various ages and the equipment needed is widely available at little or no cost.

All teachers and students will be highly encouraged to participate in possibly the biggest chemistry experiment everby following these three simple steps:

1. Joining the project
2. Participating / Sharing stories
3. Submitting Data
