Research Fellowship in Peace Studies
FELLOWSHIP IN PEACE STUDIES
Description and Terms of Reference
1. PURPOSE
The Consortium for Peace Studies (CPS) at the University of Calgary was established in 2005 by professors, social
service and medical professionals, international development practitioners and community peace workers.
The primary goal of The Consortium is to promote, encourage and advance peace research and peace work locally and
globally. We unite academics, community peace workers, students, peace enthusiasts, community groups and those in
the business of peace, with the intention of creating dynamic and comprehensive research that can then be applied to
advance peace and transform conflicts in local and international arenas. The University of Calgary considers
experience abroad and contact with foreign scholars critical to the development of global awareness and to shaping
an international character on campus.
This Fellowship is open to all disciplines so long as the research is directly related to peace studies or conflict
transformation.
2. ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates holding an academic, administrative or other appropriate appointment at an accredited post-secondary
institution are eligible to apply, provided the terms of the appointment include the expectation of independent
scholarship.
Graduate students with a strong history of academic and/or professional accomplishments who are registered fulltime in a graduate program leading to a research degree that involves the completion and presentation of a research
project, independent of individual course requirements, are eligible.
3. AWARDS
Valued at CAD $6,000 (including travel), the Fellowship is intended to support a period of residence from two to eight
months. One award is available per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31). A second, consecutive Fellowship will not be
awarded to the same individual.
Exclusive of the salary paid to the Fellows by their home institution (when applicable), Fellows may not undertake any
paid employment during the term of the award. However, individuals may hold other awards, including a sabbatical
leave, provided the terms of reference do not require the recipient to perform duties that are normally remunerated.
Conference travel and participation in normal study abroad or field school programs are not eligible. Last Updated 8/11/10 3
